An IKEA Christmas

Fans of Ikea's food rejoice! The Swedish furnishing giant, also known for the tasty food it serves at both of its' stores, has come up with a new dish specially for Christmas!

Princess Cake Slice

Being big devotees of both Ikea's furniture and designs, and not to mention their food, both The Missus and I love having our meals in their restaurant after a long and hunger-inducing walk through Ikea's winding walkways.

Ikea's festive offering, the Christmas Hot Plate, would give any Scrooge a bit of yuletide cheer. It comes with a slice of turkey breast, three slices of ham, pineapple salsa, poached baby carrots and a mini ciabatta served with a side of sauteed herb baby potatoes.

While the ham was nothing to shout about, the slice of turkey was really tasty! It was neither too salty or too bland, and I have to give two thumbs up to the chef for perfecting the marinade.

The sauteed potatoes also went really well with the turkey, and the pineapple salsa was a great accompaniment to the ham as well.

Swedish Meatballs

Or course, other than this very special treat from Ikea, we also ordered the usual stuff that we love so much. Swedish Meatballs, the Herring Plate (which The Missus absolutely detests), the works.

Another thing which I tried was the Princess Cake, which looked like it was coated with a thick layer of mutagen. It was pretty smooth and creamy, and people with a sweet tooth like me would enjoy having this for dessert.

Live Christmas trees on sale at Ikea

Another discovery when we were there was that Ikea was actually selling live Christmas trees! And with prices ranging from $15 to $35, it was actually quite affordable. Too bad for people like us staying in HDB flats though. Imagine disposing off the tree after Christmas. Let's see how that fits into the refuse bin. Of course you could go all Jigsaw on the tree and cut it up in a raving mad fit.
